GARDERE NAMES NINE NEW PARTNERS
Gardere Wynne Sewell LLP announces the promotion of nine new partners in the firm’s Dallas and Houston offices, effective April 1, 2007.

The new partners are R. Craig Baker, Steven S. Camp, Michael P. Cooley, John A. Eliason, Brett D. Lamb, Colin Martin, Robert T. Slovak, Jeanette Vloitos and John T. Woodruff.

R. Craig Baker is a partner in the firm’s real estate group, with a practice involving a broad range of commercial and residential real estate transactions. His work includes the sale and purchase of office buildings, hotels, apartments, warehouses and raw land for development, as well as commercial leasing transactions. He practices in Gardere’s Dallas office.

Steven S. Camp is a partner in the firm’s banking group. His diverse practice includes the
documentation of commercial lending transactions and assisting financial institutions and debtors with financial transactions ranging in size from $2 million to $450 million. He also has a broad range of experience in consumer finance and corporate fraud investigation, the workout of troubled loans, and regulatory matters related to financial institutions and regulated lenders. He practices in Gardere’s Dallas office.

Michael P. Cooley is a partner in the firm’s bankruptcy group, where his practice focuses on Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings, including the representation of Chapter 11 debtors, lender and creditors’ committees. He also assists with debt restructurings, out-of-court workouts and various cross-border insolvency issues. He practices in Gardere’s Dallas office.

John A. Eliason is a partner in the firm’s tax group. He practices in all areas of federal and state taxation with an emphasis on structuring complex U.S. and international commercial transactions.

He represents clients in cross-border and domestic structured financings of high value assets such as power plants, electricity networks, oil tankers and aircraft. He practices in Gardere’s Dallas office.

Brett D. Lamb is a partner in the firm’s litigation group. He represents individual, business and governmental clients in commercial litigation matters, ranging from partnership disputes to indemnification actions. Additionally, he assists clients with everyday business planning, contract drafting, and strategy decisions. He practices in Gardere’s Dallas office.

Colin Martin is a partner in the firm’s litigation group, where his practice focuses on complex business disputes. He is experienced in state and federal courts, as well as in mediation and arbitration. He often handles disputes involving contract rights, corporate transactions, real estate transactions, secured lending transactions, interference with contract rights, fraud and collections, and piercing corporate veils. He practices in Gardere’s Dallas office.

Robert T. Slovak is a partner in the firm’s litigation group. He is developing a specialty practice in residential and commercial construction litigation and intellectual property litigation, including Press Release trademark, copyright, trade secret and patent litigation. He has worked on both sides of the docket in a variety of industries, including construction, technology, Internet, health care, consumer foods, commercial financing and leasing, graphic design and telecommunications. He practices in Gardere’s Dallas office.

Jeanette Vloitos is a partner in the firm’s litigation group. She maintains a practice focused on litigation arising from corporate transactions, technology, tort and insurance disputes, insurance coverage and reinsurance disputes, securities claims, landlord/tenant disputes, broker disputes, product liability claims, professional malpractice, toxic torts and personal injury claims. She practices in Gardere’s Dallas office.

John T. Woodruff is a partner in the firm’s tax group, with particular emphasis on cross-border mergers, as well as inbound and outbound acquisitions. He has represented clients in a broad range of industries and has particular experience with multinational oil and gas exploration and production companies. He also has represented private equity investors and targets structuring venture capital and mezzanine investments. He practices in Gardere’s Houston office.

Sidney K. Swinson inducted as Fellow of the American College of Bankruptcy
The American College of Bankruptcy inducted Sidney K. Swinson as a Fellow of the College on March 23rd in Washington, D.C. Mr. Swinson was one of 26 nominees from the United States and abroad in the Eighteenth Class (2007) of College Fellows. All were honored and recognized for their professional excellence and exceptional contributions to the fields of bankruptcy and insolvency.

The ceremony took place at the historic National Building Museum in Washington, D.C., built in 1887, and was presided over by Evelyn H. Biery, Chair of the College. The keynote speaker was Raymond L. Shapiro, Esq.

The American College of Bankruptcy is an honorary professional and educational association of bankruptcy and insolvency professionals. The College plays an important role in sustaining professional excellence in this rapidly expanding field of expertise. College Fellows include commercial and consumer bankruptcy attorneys, insolvency accountants, turnaround and workout specialists, law professors, judges, government officials and others involved in the bankruptcy and insolvency community.

Nominees for Fellows are extended an invitation to join based on a record of achievement reflecting the highest standards of professionalism. The College presently has 633 Fellows.

Criteria for selection include: the highest standard of professionalism, ethics, character, integrity, professional expertise and leadership contributing to the enhancement of bankruptcy and insolvency law and practice; sustained evidence of scholarship, teaching, lecturing or writing on bankruptcy or insolvency; and commitment to elevate knowledge and understanding of the profession and public respect for the practice.

Sidney K. Swinson has been a member of GableGotwals since 1988, and presently serves on the firm’s board of directors. In addition to being an Adjunct Professor of Law at the University of Tulsa College of Law, Mr. Swinson represents clients in both business and consumer bankruptcy cases and is on the Trustee Panel for the United States Bankruptcy Court in the Northern and Eastern Districts of Oklahoma. Since 1998, Mr. Swinson has served as an Adjunct Settlement Judge for the United States Bankruptcy and District Courts for the Northern District of Oklahoma, and he presently serves as Chief Master of the Professional Responsibility Tribunal of the Oklahoma Bar Association. He is the co-author of a bankruptcy law textbook: Introduction to Bankruptcy Law, Fifth Edition (Thomson Publishing Company).

Sid received his undergraduate degree from Notre Dame in Business Management in 1977 and his Juris Doctorate from the University of Tulsa College of Law in 1980.

WENDEL ROSEN ATTORNEY JUDITH TANG ELECTED TO OAKLAND CHINATOWN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Judith Tang, an attorney at Oakland law firm Wendel, Rosen, Black & Dean LLP, was recently elected to the Board of Directors of the Oakland Chinatown Chamber of Commerce (OCCC). OCCC strives to promote and advocate for business and trade in the Oakland Asian community.

“The OCCC is an important part of the local Asian business community, and I am proud to have this opportunity to serve in a leadership capacity of this organization,” said Tang.
Tang has been active in the group for 10 years and will serve a three-year term on the board. She has previously presented to the organization’s membership on legal subjects important to the local business community, including ADA access and estate planning issues. In addition, she has appeared on Chinese radio and television, educating the Chinese community on estate planning and related topics. Tang is also the author of several Chinese language translations of the State Bar of California consumer publications, which can be viewed at www.wendel.com/attorney_Tang_Judith.cfm.

At Wendel Rosen, Tang helps clients prepare and evaluate wills, living trusts, life insurance trusts and durable powers of attorney to successfully transfer wealth with minimum estate and gift tax consequences. Judith is certified by the State Bar of California as a specialist in Probate, Estate Planning and Trust Law, and she is one of the few estate planning attorneys in California who is fluent in Cantonese. She earned her J.D. from the University of California, San Francisco, Hastings College of Law (1995) and a B.A. from University of California, Berkeley (1992).

About OCCC The Oakland Chinatown Chamber of Commerce was formed in 1985 by a group of local business people who wanted to promote business in the Asian community and provide a forum for the discussion of government policies. Today, the chamber has grown to more than 400 members representing very diverse ethnic groups and a range of businesses and professions in both Oakland Chinatown and outside of the Oakland Chinatown area. The OCCC strives to provide a forum for the discussion of government policies and is a recognized point of contact for the Asian community to actively voice concerns over economic and social issues.

Kevin Coleman was featured in USA Today’s “Strategies: Surviving Another’s Bankruptcy” column. The column discussed helpful steps that small companies may take to insulate themselves against another’s bankruptcy, whether a customer, distributor, or supplier.

Firm Chairman Ralph Wellington recently was a member of the Settlement Music School’s “Settlement 100” selection panel. Winkelman Appointed to Board of Pennsylvanians for Modern Courts
Schnader attorney and co-chair of the Firm’s Appellate Practice Group, Nancy Winkelman, has been appointed to serve on the Advisory Board of Pennsylvanians for Modern Courts (PMC).

PMC is a statewide, nonprofit, nonpartisan organization working to reform and improve Pennsylvania’s courts in order to achieve the ideal of an independent, unbiased judicial system. Issues addressed by PMC include: reforming the judicial selection process; improving the jury system, court administration, and court financing; eliminating bias; and educating citizens about, and assisting them in navigating, the courts and the justice system, whether as litigants, jurors, or witnesses; and fostering judicial independence.

Pennington Partner Speaks and Publishes on Patent Law
Pennington Partner, Sid Kilgore, recently made a presentation on Patent Prosecution and Litigation to the Intellectual Property Law Society at Stetson University College of Law. His article “Patent Prosecution for Non-Patent Attorneys,” has been published in the February/March 2007 edition of the Res Ipsa Loquitur, the newsletter of the Clearwater Bar Association.

Another Kilgore publication is an article entitled “When should you seek a patent opinion and why?,” which was in the March 2007 issue of The Lawyer, the monthly magazine of the Hillsborough County Bar Association.

Kilgore also co-authored the 2006 patent case law summaries which shortly will be published in the Journal of the Business Law Section of the Florida Bar.
