Gide Loyrette Nouel advises GE Capital in Subordinated Debenture Financing:
Gide Loyrette Nouel MNP has acted as United States and English law counsel to General Electric Capital Corporation in connection with a global offering of two tranches of Subordinated Debentures issued on September 5 and listed on the London Stock Exchange’s Gilt Edged and Fixed Interest Market. The euro tranche consisted of an offering of €1,500,000,000 Fixed to Floating Rate EUR Subordinated Debentures due 2067 and the sterling tranche consisted of an offering of £600,000,000 Fixed to Floating Rate GBP Subordinated Debentures due 2067.

London based Partner Scott Cameron led the team of lawyers representing General Electric Capital Corporation and was assisted by associates Alex Muller and Phung Pham, each also from the London office.

Scott Cameron commented, “We were very pleased to assist GE Capital in completing the subordinated debenture financing, especially under current market conditions. GE Capital continues to be one of the most active issuers of debt securities in the world and we highly value our relationship with them."

Attorney Abbe F. Fletman Receives National Appointment as Co-Chair of The Woman Advocate Committee
Abbe F. Fletman, shareholder, head of Flaster/Greenberg’s Litigation Section of the Intellectual Property Practice Group and member of the Commercial Litigation Practice Group, was appointed by the American Bar Association (ABA) 2007-08 Section of Litigation leadership to serve as co-chair of The Woman Advocate Committee (WAC). Fletman was recognized by the ABA for her achievements as one of the nation’s leading litigators and her active leadership in the regional and national legal communities.

As co-chair, Fletman will oversee WAC, a committee of the Section of Litigation. This section is the largest specialty section of the ABA and is dedicated to helping litigators serve as more effective advocates on behalf of their clients and in the eyes of the public. WAC sponsors programs that feature talented women trial lawyers demonstrating trial and advocacy skills and styles and programs on rainmaking for women with an emphasis on attracting and retaining clients. The committee offers the opportunity to network with other women trial lawyers and discuss issues such as balancing trial work and families, mentoring and perceptions of women advocates. Fletman’s role as co-chair involves supervision of these programs and attendance at national leadership meetings and the section’s annual conference.

A recognized leader in the legal community, Fletman is a fellow at The Academy of Advocacy of Temple University Beasley School of Law. She is a frequent presenter at legal conferences, including the ABA Litigation Section annual meetings, the Pennsylvania Bar Institute, and the Philadelphia Bar Association’s Federal Bench-Bar Conference.

Antitrust Lawyer Alicia Batts Joins Proskauer Rose as Partner in Washington, D.C. Office
Proskauer Rose LLP, an international law firm with more than 750 lawyers worldwide, announced that Alicia J. Batts has joined the firm as a partner in the Washington, D.C. office. An antitrust litigator who represents clients in the federal courts and before federal and state agencies in addition to providing counsel on related matters to companies in a range of industries, she also brings valuable experience from her past work as an antitrust advisor at the Federal Trade Commission.

Ms. Batts' practice concentrates on all issues relating to unfair trade practices and she regularly represents clients before antitrust enforcement agencies and in federal antitrust cases. She also has extensive experience representing and providing antitrust counseling for companies in a range of industries including automotive, aeronautics, pharmaceutical, financial, and energy.

"Alicia is an extremely valuable addition to our antitrust practice and will be an important part of the work we are doing on behalf of clients in the U.S. and around the world. With her broad experience working with a range of different industries on both the private and government sides, she provides incomparable capabilities to our team," said Ronald S. Rauchberg, co-chair of Proskauer's Antitrust and Trade Regulation Practice Group.

Ms. Batts is the latest significant addition to Proskauer's Washington, D.C. office. The firm also announced that Trevor Chaplick, a seasoned corporate and transactional lawyer and the founder and former managing partner of Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati's Washington, D.C. office, has joined as partner and co-head of Proskauer's D.C. office.

Ms. Batts joins Proskauer from Dickstein Shapiro LLP, where she was a partner. She also worked as an antitrust advisor to Federal Trade Commissioner Mozelle Thompson, for whom she reviewed antitrust actions before the FTC and made recommendations on enforcement and policy matters before the Federal Antitrust Agency. Throughout her career she has represented, among many others: a worldwide credit and charge card network in defense of allegations that exclusivity agreements with issuers violated antitrust laws; a hospital association in a class action filed against a teaching hospital and medical associations and programs; a large distributor purchasing a competitor in a highly-concentrated market; and a manufacturing company in selling all of its assets to a Fortune 10 company including antitrust filings in 23 jurisdictions.

Ms. Batts has also served as vice-chair of the American Bar Association Antitrust Section Business Torts & Civil RICO Committee, on the ABA antitrust section Litigation Task Force, and is a former member of the editorial board of the Antitrust Law Journal. A regular panelist at antitrust conferences, she is also a member of the board of directors of the Appleseed Foundation, a board member of the St. Albans' Parents' Association, and is listed in Black Enterprise's "America's Top Black Lawyers." She is a graduate of Columbia University Law School and Harvard College.

Proskauer's Antitrust and Trade Regulation Practice Group litigates on behalf of plaintiffs and defendants, and counsels clients in all areas of antitrust law including Hart-Scott-Rodino Act compliance in mergers and acquisitions. The firm also has an active practice in government investigations, civil suits, and criminal proceedings. The practice also includes merger investigations before the Department of Justice and the Federal Trade Commission, and regular counseling in all areas of antitrust law, such as price discrimination, licensing, distribution and marketing issues, trade association activities, joint venture and pre-merger analysis, health care issues, and more.

Powell Goldstein Expands Commercial Real Estate Practice With Addition of Henry S. Rogers
Powell Goldstein LLP announced today that Henry S. Rogers will join its Commercial Real Estate Practice as a Senior Title Attorney. Mr. Rogers' responsibilities will include coordinating and handling title and survey closing matters for the firm's Commercial Syndicated Loan Practice.

Most recently, Henry Rogers served as Vice President and Area Counsel for LandAmerica/Lawyers Title Insurance Corporation and was the Major Transactions Counsel for Lawyers Title Insurance Corporation in Georgia. He spent more than 20 years with Lawyers Title, where he started as Georgia State Counsel in 1987.

"Henry Rogers' reputation in Atlanta and nationwide is one of integrity and professionalism and we are proud to welcome him to our firm. Henry brings with him a wealth of knowledge of the real estate title industry and his expertise in resolving complex title and survey issues will be a great asset to our clients as we continue to grow Powell Goldstein's Commercial Real Estate Practice in Atlanta, Washington, D.C. and Dallas," said Stephen B. Mr. Rogers is a former President and member of the Board of Directors of the Dixie Land Title Association and is a current member of its Strategic Planning Committee.

Henry Rogers' sense of leadership extends beyond the practice of law. He served his country in the U.S. Army Reserve in East Point, Ga. He is also an active member of the North Decatur United Methodist Church in Decatur, Ga., where he has held several leadership positions in his church including Chairman of the Administrative Board, Chairman of the Finance
Committee and is currently a member of the Building Committee. He is also a former President of the Young Harris Alumni Foundation.

Mr. Rogers holds a Juris Doctor and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Emory University as well as an Associate of Arts degree from Young Harris College. He is a member of the State Bar of Georgia

Miller Canfield Attorney Appointed to Board of Directors of Washtenaw Community College Foundation
The law firm of Miller Canfield announces that Ms. Soni Mithani, a principal in the Ann Arbor office, was recently appointed to a three-year term on the Board of Directors of the Washtenaw Community College Foundation, effective July 1, 2007.

Mithani is a commercial litigator in the firm. Her practice covers all general commercial matters involving disputed contracts and business torts. She specializes in handling false claims act claims, healthcare litigation matters and construction disputes.

She is a member of the American Bar Association, the State Bar of Michigan, where she serves on the District G Character and Fitness Committee, the District of Columbia Bar Association, and the Washtenaw County Bar Association, serving on its Board of Directors from 2004-2006. She is also a member of the Board of Trustees of the Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum.

She received her J.D. from Harvard Law School, and earned a B.B.A. with high distinction from the University of Michigan.

She resides in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
