Attorney Eric C. Garrabrant Named Recipient of NJBIZ Forty Under 40 Award
Eric C. Garrabrant, a shareholder and member of the Real Estate Practice Group at Flaster/Greenberg, was recently named a 2007 Forty Under 40 recipient. The Forty Under 40 awards program honors men and women who have excelled in their fields and who share a commitment to business growth, professional excellence and the community. The program is produced by NJBIZ, New Jersey’s premiere business news publication, and is sponsored by AXA Advisors, and Wiss & Company, Certified Public Accountants.

Garrabrant was recognized for his professional accomplishments and community involvement. At Flaster/Greenberg, Garrabrant concentrates his practice in construction and real estate litigation, land use and planning law and represents buyers and sellers in commercial real estate transactions.

Prior to coming to Flaster/Greenberg, Garrabrant had his own law practice in Wildwood, New Jersey and previously was a partner in another South Jersey-based law firm for three years. A resident of Wildwood Crest, he is the current Municipal Prosecutor and conflict counsel for the City of Wildwood, positions he has held since 2004 and 2002 respectively. Garrabrant has also been a coach and judge for a countywide high school mock trial competition since 1998 and volunteered his time to the Boy Scouts of America as a career lecturer and Scout Leader.

To qualify for the Forty Under 40 award, a nominee had to meet the following criteria: must work in New Jersey, must be born after November 13, 1967, may be self nominated or nominated by another person, should be an owner, partner, president, CEO, CFO, COO, board chair, senior executive management or person with significant authority for decision making in a company, may not be a member of the judges’ immediate family, and may not be a previous Forty Under 40 recipient.

NJBIZ and the program sponsors will honor this year’s 40 winners during an awards ceremony on Monday, September 24, 2007 at the Palace at Somerset Park in Somerset, New Jersey.

Twenty-three Loeb & Loeb Attorneys Named 2008 "Best Lawyers"

Stan Keller recently co-authored the fifth edition of the Corporate Director's Guidebook published by the ABA's Committee on Corporate Laws. This 118-page, 12-section book provides concise guidance to corporate directors in meeting their responsibilities and focuses on the role of the individual director as well as the functions of the board of directors and its key committees.

Cooley Shines Without Stars
When Cooley Godward Kronish does a big deal, you can almost bet on seeing the names of superstar M&A lawyers like Keith Flaum or Richard Climan on the paperwork.

But when the Silicon Valley firm guided RF Micro Devices in its $900 million acquisition of Sirenza Microdevices, their names were nowhere to be found. Instead a young Palo Alto partner, Jane Ross, headed up the team of lawyers that hammered out the purchase for the North Carolina company.

Boston Business Journal Honors WilmerHale with Education Partner of the Year Award
At its recent annual Corporate Philanthropy Summit and Awards breakfast, attended by 900 major business, government, nonprofit, and foundation representatives, the Boston Business Journal honored WilmerHale as an “Education Partner of the Year”, and also recognized the firm as a leading charitable contributor in Massachusetts. The firm was selected for the “Education Partner of the Year” award by an independent panel of judges, in recognition of the firm’s sustained and extensive work to enrich the lives of Boston-area youth.

Conceived in 1996, the firm’s Youth and Education Initiative contributes more than $825,000 over three years to Boston-based nonprofit partner organizations that focus on improving the educational opportunities available to urban young people. Partner organizations during 2007-2009 include Cathedral High School, Citizen Schools, Discovering Justice: the James D. St. Clair Court Education Project and Teen Empowerment. The Initiative has produced substantial results in terms of student morale, student and staff retention, college acceptance rates, child literacy, improved communication skills, career opportunities and community building.

White & Case Names Two New Counsel in Paris
White & Case has announced the promotion of two lawyers, Juliette Goyer and Christophe von Krause, to counsel, reflecting the continuing development of its presence in the areas of competition law and international arbitration.

Juliette Goyer specializes in French and EC Competition law. She joined White & Case in 2004 and has since then actively contributed to the development of White & Case's Competition group. Juliette is a graduate of University of Paris II Pantheon-Assas and holds an LL.M. in literary, artistic and industrial property law. She was admitted to the Paris bar in 1995. Juliette advises investment funds and banks as well as industrial and services firms. Her experience covers the entire competition law field, with a particular focus on litigation relating to anticompetitive practices (cartels, abuses of dominant position), distribution law and merger control.

Christophe von Krause was admitted to the Paris bar in 1995 and joined White & Case in 2001. He is a member of the International Arbitration Practice. Christophe is a graduate of University of Paris II Pantheon-Assas and holds a post-graduate degree in business law (DESS-DJCE). He has appeared before a wide variety of international arbitral tribunals with a particular focus on arbitrations under the rules of the International chamber of commerce. Christophe has experience of advocacy in both French and English. His experience focuses on disputes in connection with the performance of international contracts, particularly in the areas of construction, energy, hotels and industrial sectors, as well as post-acquisition disputes.

"These promotions illustrate the strength of our competition and international arbitration teams, which will continue to contribute to the growth of our firm," noted Vincent Morin, executive partner of White & Case in Paris.

The Competition group at White & Case, which was recently reinforced with the arrival of Jean-Paul Tran Thiet as a partner, now includes two partners, one counsel and eight associates in Paris and 140 lawyers worldwide, including 35 partners. The team has seen significant development in demand in connection with increased levels of merger and acquisition activity and a number of major disputes, such as the Microsoft case.

International arbitration is a key area of focus for White & Case, particularly in Paris where there are 23 lawyers, including six partners and one counsel, in the International Arbitration team. The International Arbitration Practice of White & Case is a global leader, handling complex cases and strategic issues, with 120 lawyers worldwide including 30 partners.
