Carlton Fields’ Atlanta Attorney Catherine Salinas Appointed to the Advisory Committee of The Atlanta Legal Aid Society
Carlton Fields is pleased to announce that Atlanta associate Catherine Salinas was recently appointed to the Advisory Committee of the Atlanta Legal Aid Society.

The Atlanta Legal Aid Society has represented Atlanta's poor in civil legal cases since 1924. Their work helps citizens deal with some of life's most basic needs -- a safe home, enough food to eat, a decent education, protection against fraud, and personal safety. Salinas spent the first five years of her legal career working for Texas Rural Legal Aid on the Texas/Mexico border. Prior to joining Carlton Fields, Salinas served as a law clerk for Willis B. Hunt, Jr., the United States District Court, Northern District of Georgia in Atlanta. She received her J.D., with honors, in 1994 from the University of Texas School of Law and her Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish in 1990 from Emory University.

PLC Global 50 Named Baker & McKenzie "Leading" Pharmaceutical Law Practice in Poland
Baker & McKenzie is pleased to announce that Practical Law Company (PLC) Global 50 named it a "leading" pharmaceutical/life sciences practice in Poland. PLC conducted an analysis of pharmaceutical law practices in 33 jurisdictions in Europe and Asia.

In PLC's Life Sciences Industry Super Leagues 2007, Baker & McKenzie moved from fifth to third place ranking a few points behind Covington & Burling and Bird & Bird; however, the Firm was recommended in 13 jurisdictions including Poland, nine more than Covington & Burling and five more than Bird & Bird, both firms do not have an office in Poland.

The Pharmaceutical Practice Group at Baker & McKenzie Warsaw Office is made up of three lawyers specializing in legal, administrative, and industry issues and is led by Paulina Kieszkowska – Partner.

2007 Super Lawyers Announced.
Congratulations to the six lawyers in our Denver office who were recently named "Super Lawyers" and are listed in the current edition of Colorado Super Lawyers magazine and in the April issue of 5280 Magazine.

These attorneys join the 69 Ohio lawyers in our Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, Costa Mesa, Los Angeles and Washington, D.C., offices who were named "Super Lawyers" earlier this year.

"Super Lawyers" is a comprehensive and diverse listing of outstanding attorneys representing a wide range of practice areas, firm sizes and geographic locations. The selection process is designed to identify attorneys who have attained a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement.

The 2007 lists are based on surveys of thousands of lawyers and only the top five percent of lawyers, from nearly 60 practice areas, are named "Super Lawyers.

John A. Tang Adds to Strasburger's Growing IP Practice
Strasburger & Price, LLP, continuing our commitment to diversity and the growth of our IP practice, welcomes John A. Tang to our Houston office. Mr. Tang will use more than a decade of experience in the preparation and prosecution of patent and trademark applications, counseling, opinion work and patent and trademark litigation.

Mr. Tang was previously a patent examiner and attorney-advisor at the United States Patent and Trademark Office in Washington D.C. His knowledge as both a patent examiner and as a trademark examining attorney give him outstanding perspective in the complex world of intellectual property law.

"John's exceptional background as an electrical engineer, a patent examiner and as an attorney, make him an unbelievable asset to both the Firm and its clients."

Mr. Tang received his B.S. in electrical engineering from Texas A&M University in 1986, his M.S. in electrical engineering from Southern Methodist University in 1989 and his J.D. from South Texas College of Law in 1994. He is admitted to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office and is a member of the Texas and Florida State Bars. Prior to his legal career, Mr. Tang worked as an electrical engineer in the telecommunications and aerospace industries.

Wal-Mart Selects Mark Bryant to Serve as Sonnenschein's Relationship Partner
Wal-Mart has selected partner Mark Bryant to serve as its Sonnenschein relationship partner. Mark will ensure Sonnenschein's compliance with Wal-Mart's Outside Counsel Guidelines, be aware and understanding of the Wal-Mart business model and values, act as Wal-Mart's Firm liaison on new file openings, hourly rates, case management, conflicts of interest, budgets, and adhere to Wal-Mart's diversity initiative and related matters.

Also, Mark will monitor and advise Wal-Mart on matters that could potentially affect their company, and address any and every issue of concern to either Wal-Mart or Sonnenschein.

DeCarlo, who was previously an Officer at the firm, leads the firm’s mechanical patent and medical device practice groups. DeCarlo is an adjunct professor of intellectual property law at Georgia State University College of Law. Before joining Needle & Rosenberg, he worked as a domestic and international commercial pilot for Delta Air Lines and as a fighter pilot with the United States Air Force.

DeCarlo is a registered patent attorney and a member of the State Bar of Georgia where he serves on the executive committee of the Georgia Technology Law Section. He is also active in the American Intellectual Property Law Association, Copyright Society of the U.S.A. and Southeast Medical Device Association.

A native of Massachusetts, DeCarlo earned his J.D., magna cum laude, from the Georgia State University College of Law in 1997, where he was Associate Lead Articles Editor of the Georgia State University Law Review. DeCarlo also holds an M.B.A., with honors, from Golden Gate University and a B.S. in mechanical engineering, magna cum laude, from Clemson University.
