Addison 

Firm Culture:  Do not interview with this firm if you are a female attorney. You will greatly regret it. There are no full time female attorneys there for a reason.
Work & Hours: Work and hours are average. Average billing is around 155-160
Salary & Benefits:  Salary is below market average and benefits are skimpy especially the health insurance.
The Interview process:  Interview process is relaxed and they will do just about anything to try to get someone in the door. They have been looking for a senior level litigation attorney for over two years with no bites.
Overall Impression:  Stay away. No one has made partner in the firm for over five years and they want to keep it that way. The firm is very top heavy with a lot of dead weight partners who do no carry their weight and drain off the profits that the associates make.



Addison 

Firm Culture:  A small firm environment with big firm clients. Associates are given plenty of responsibility. I was with the firm a number of years and had a great experience. The firm does a good job planning social and professional functions (CLE,luncheons, firm outings, etc.). Overall, a very friendly environment without the stress and bureaucracy of many firms.
Work & Hours: Billable hours range between 150-160 hours. It is not a sweatshop environment. If you get your work done properly and timely, there is very little pressure from a performance standpoint.
Salary & Benefits:  Competitive. The firm always had a good bonus program. Good insurance and retirement benefits.
The Interview process:  Casual. Typically, a group of attorneys participates in the initial interview and before being hired you will likely meet with most of the attorneys. I was involved in the process many times and found it was nice to get a first impression of most of the group before you have to make a decision.
Overall Impression:  The firm has shown steady growth in the last few years. The partnership track is typical of firms its size. I personally learned a ton and had a positive experience. I would highly recommend the firm to potential candidates and prospective clients.



Addison 

Firm Culture:  This firm is a perfect example of the many benefits of working in a small firm. There is a large amount of interaction between partners and associates which probably results in part from the partnersí efforts at making this a positive working and social environment. If you donít want to spend the first 5 years of your career in the library, the firm is a great fit as partners allow associates to advance as quickly as they want provided that they generally show responsibility and good skills. As a woman who worked there full time for 7 years and part time for 8, I also found the partners to be very willing to accommodate my family life and schedule. The firm actively seeks out women (they currently have 3 full time women) and the associates tend to be a well balanced group.
Work & Hours: Over the years, I have been able to work on a large variety of cases and to the extent I desired, have been allowed to cross over from a litigation practice into some corporate. I believe this flexibility on the part of the firm has allowed me to develop at a faster pace and keeps work challenging. Hours typically billed are 150 per month and work hours are fairly standard without requiring too many late nights or weekends.
Salary & Benefits:  These seem to be typical for a firm of its size. While salaries are certainly below those of large firms, I received several bonuses which I know to be larger than those received by friends employed by large firms. Hard work is rewarded.
The Interview process:  In this firm the interview process is taken fairly seriously since it is important that new associates are a good fit, but the firm seeks to make the process pleasant. Interviewees are allowed to meet not just partners but most of the associates and, contrary to some of my other experiences, are allowed to ask candid questions about the firm.
Overall Impression:  Hiersche Hayward has proved an excellent firm to work with for almost 16 years. It has a good reputation in the business and a large variety of clients. The firm supports its associates and provides helpful resources for their growth and development. The reduced number of hours worked (lower than large firms) allows for flexibility in oneís schedule. While the firm is a great place to work for everyone, I have found it to be a particularly exceptional place to work as a female.
