Trial Lawyer Joins Hicks Thomas LLP

Summary: Hicks Thomas welcomed a noted trial lawyer to their team in Houston.

Trial Lawyer Joins Hicks Thomas LLP

Houston-based litigation boutique Hicks Thomas LLP welcomed a highly-recognized trial lawyer to their team. Paul L. Mitchell joined the firm July 1 as a partner. The move reunites him with longtime colleague and friend John B. Thomas. The two clerked together from 1986-87 for the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

Mitchell will help the firm’s notable courtroom practice with a strong record working with clients in the oil and gas sector. His clients have ranged from major companies to small organizations. He also has expertise advising on matters under the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act.

Thomas said, “It only took us 30 years. Paul is a true trial lawyer and we are delighted that he has joined team. Our clients know that having an attorney who knows how to try a case means that have more strength at the bargaining table.”

Mitchell joins from Andrews Kurth Kenyon LLP where he was for the past nine years as a partner in the Litigation Group. He started his career at Baker Botts LLP where he was a partner in the Trial Department.

Mitchell said of his move, “Hicks Thomas is the ideal spot for me. John is an exceptional lawyer, and over the years, I’ve even tried cases against other lawyers at the firm. I’ve seen firsthand the quality of the Hicks Thomas team. I’m excited to be working at a firm that is capable of trying big cases, while remaining very nimble in responding to the evolving needs of our clients.”
