Scott M. Baach Named Among New Jersey Super Lawyers Rising Stars
The Somerville law firm Norris McLaughlin & Marcus, P.A. is pleased to announce that member Scott M. Baach has been selected for inclusion in the Business/Corporate section of New Jersey Super Lawyers Rising Stars 2007.

New Jersey Super Lawyers Rising Stars are sought out by an attorney-led research team, which actively searches for outstanding new attorneys to complement the annual statewide survey of Super Lawyers. The research team evaluates prospective candidates for indicators of peer recognition and professional achievement as a supplement to the Super Lawyers balloting. Civic service and pro bono activities are also considered. Their research is verified and a good-standing review is carried out to ensure that candidates are in good standing with the New Jersey Office of Attorney Ethics web site. Only two and a half percent of New Jersey attorneys are given this honor.

A resident of Basking Ridge, Baach is a corporate attorney who primarily represents clients in the health care and life science industries, including medical device manufacturers, health care technology companies, pharmaceutical companies and hospitals. On behalf of these clients, Baach works on a variety of transactional, regulatory and compliance matters, including mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, strategic alliances, fraud and abuse rules, reimbursement matters, marketing and sales regulations and other related issues. Before joining Norris McLaughlin & Marcus, Baach spent a decade in the health care field, where he held various managerial positions in the areas of finance and administration.

A portion of Baach’s practice is also devoted to helping entrepreneurs, closely-held businesses and small to mid-sized companies to achieve their day-to-day, as well as long-term business objectives. He assists these clients with business formation, strategic planning, daily operational issues, regulatory and ongoing contractual matters.

Baach is a member of the Health & Hospital Law Section of the New Jersey State Bar Association and the American Health Lawyers Association. He received his J.D., cum laude, from Seton Hall University in 1997, his M.B.A. from Fairleigh Dickinson University in 1996 and his B.A., cum laude, from the University of Arizona in 1988.

Kennedy Covington Raleigh Partner Receives "Women in Business" Award
Kennedy Covington, one of the largest law firms in the Carolinas, is pleased to announce that partner Margaret R. Westbrook has been honored with the Triangle Business Journal's Women in Business Achievement Award. Candidates for the 25 awards are evaluated on business accomplishments, company growth, new product development and annual award recognition.

The first half of 2007 was highlighted by two significant accomplishments for Margaret. In January, she was promoted to partner at Kennedy Covington. Three months later, she was named the chair of a new practice, making her the youngest practice chair at the firm, which includes more than 200 attorneys.

As head of the Campaign Finance, Political Committees and Ethics practice, Margaret advises clients on campaign finance, ethics, lobbying and conflicts of interest issues in connection with federal, state and local laws. Her work includes representing businesses involved in the political process, as well as corporate and independent political action committees. Her practice also extends to compliance of government affairs activities including monitoring campaign contributions, gifts and gratuities, and lobbying registration laws.

Margaret also practices in Kennedy Covington's Financial Services Litigation group assisting clients with bankruptcy, restructuring and creditors' rights issues. She has represented major financial institutions and large real estate investment trusts in both North Carolina and national Chapter 11 bankruptcy cases. When the federal bankruptcy laws were revised in 2005, Margaret assumed leadership roles serving on the Local Rules Committee of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina and the Exemption Reform Committee of the North Carolina Bar Association. Through these organizations, she helped shape the procedural rules governing local bankruptcy practice and shepherded legislation through the General Assembly that revised North Carolina's exemption laws for the first time since 1991.

"When Margaret joined Kennedy Covington in 1998, I was astounded by her maturity and work ethic," says Kent Christison, partner-in-charge of the firm's Raleigh and Research Triangle Park offices. "Over the past several years, she has distinguished herself as an industry and legal leader, who is highly regarded by both her peers and her clients."

Margaret is an active volunteer with the North Carolina Bar Association's Bankruptcy Section Council and was named Kennedy Covington's Recruiting Partner for the Raleigh and Research Triangle Park offices earlier this year.

The international law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP has joined the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), a nonprofit organization whose stated core purpose is “to transform the way buildings and communities are designed, built and operated, enabling an environmentally and socially responsible, healthy and productive environment that improves the quality of life.”

“We are working with many of our clients toward building in an environmentally responsible, sustainable and profitable way. We are very pleased to join forces and exchange resources with the many members of this organization in order to better serve our clients’ needs,” said Greenberg Traurig Shareholder Paul D’Arelli. The USGBC is comprised of more than 10,000 member organizations from every sector of the building industry. The USGBC’s 75 regional chapters represent the organization in communities, providing local green building resources, education and leadership opportunities.

Members of Greenberg Traurig’s Green Building and Sustainable Development Practice Group are assisting clients who recognize the significance of “green” building trends and sustainability on the future of development, construction, and other industries. Approximately 20 attorneys working across the firm’s 29 offices comprise this multi-disciplinary team. The practice group’s members work closely with clients to implement their sustainability initiatives.

“Our firm’s membership in the USGBC will allow our Green Building and Sustainable Development Practice Group attorneys to join local USGBC chapters nationwide, and by doing so better track local laws and ordinances that implement LEED standards. The up-to-the-minute publications and resources available to USGBC members will be invaluable to us as we work to help our clients get the most out of their sustainable building efforts,” said Greenberg Traurig Of Counsel Paul Savage, a practice group member who works on LEED-certified projects out of Greenberg Traurig’s Miami office.
