Goulston & Storrs ranks highly for the tenth consecutive year in American Lawyer's annual mid-level associate satisfaction poll
Goulston & Storrs announced today that it ranked first among all Boston law firms, and once again attained a high national ranking among mid-size firms, in American Lawyer’s authoritative annual mid-level associate poll. This marks the firm’s tenth consecutive year that it has secured a high ranking in this critical assessment of law firm associates. The rankings, for appeal and job satisfaction among mid-level associates released in the August 2007 issue of American Lawyer Magazine, place Goulston & Storrs first among all mid-sized firms in Boston and third nationally.

In the past, Goulston & Storrs has ranked first nationally among mid-size firms, and in 1998, the first year of the firm’s participation in the poll, the firm was ranked number one among all firms nationally. Participation among law firms has grown dramatically during the life of the survey, as the legal environment has become more challenging and many firms have faced cutbacks. American Lawyer associate rankings are considered a significant barometer in evaluating law firms’ success in attracting and retaining the most talented lawyers.

Said Douglas Husid, co-managing director of Goulston & Storrs, “We’re thrilled to rank at the top for associate satisfaction in Boston and among the highest for peer firms nationally. The ranking reflects our strong commitment to ensuring a thriving and supportive environment for our current associates and future recruits, and is equally strong proof point that our efforts have been successful. We take exceptional pride in the dedicated attorneys that we attract to our firm, and we are also focused on ensuring that our distinctive culture remains evident to our employees and clients even as we have grown over the past year.”

Goulston & Storrs achieved an overall ranking nationally of third, reflecting ratings on a scale from 1 to 5 on factors such as interesting work, atmosphere, management openness, billable hours, pro bono work, training and guidance and treatment by partners.

Andy Stamelman Elected President of the Jewish Community Foundation of MetroWest
Andrew J. Stamelman has been elected President of the Jewish Community Foundation of MetroWest. Mr. Stamelman, who serves a dual role at Riker Danzig as head of its Tax and Corporate Practice Groups, will serve a three-year term as President after serving for many years in other leadership capacities with the Foundation, and continues as head of its Legal Review Committee.

The Foundation, the largest community foundation in New Jersey and one of the largest in the country, has assets exceeding $250 million, with a goal of reaching $270 million by 2010.

“I come to this as a tax and trusts and estate lawyer,” says Mr. Stamelman. “I work with clients every day who are interested in having a dialogue about charitable giving and how the clients should approach it vis-à-vis estate tax and family planning. I have been a big believer for many years in the vehicle and purpose of community foundations as an alternative to private family foundations.”

As the general counsel for many middle market companies, Mr. Stamelman counsels these clients on their estate and succession planning, as well as business matters including mergers and acquisitions, and joint ventures. He is ranked among the leading corporate lawyers in the state by the Chambers USA: America’s Leading Business Lawyers Client’s Guide, the Best Lawyers in America®, and Law & Politics Magazine’s “Super Lawyers.” In addition to his legal practice, Mr. Stamelman serves on the firm’s Executive Committee.
