Nathaniel Jones Receives American Lawyer's Lifetime Achievement Award
Judge Nathaniel Jones, Blank Rome's chief diversity and inclusion officer, is being honored by the American Lawyer magazine, as a recipient of its fourth annual Lifetime Achievement Awards.

This year’s award recipients, as well as the law firms selected for the magazine’s 2007 "A-List" rankings, will be honored at a gala dinner on October 24, 2007, in New York City.

Judge Jones practices litigation in Blank Rome's Cincinnati, Ohio, office. He was general counsel of the NAACP for a decade, beginning in 1969, taking several cases to the U.S. Supreme Court. President Jimmy Carter named him to the Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, where he served with distinction for 23 years.

"Over their distinguished careers, these individuals have exemplified the legal profession’s twin values of client service and public duty. Though they come from a variety of backgrounds, firms, and locales, they share careers of remarkable distinction and have set outstanding examples for younger members of the profession. We’re pleased to recognize their accomplishments through the American Lawyer’s Lifetime Achievement Awards," said Aric Press, editor in chief.

Foley Receives CIO 100 Award For Leadership In Client Service Technology Development.
Foley & Lardner LLP announced today that the firm received a 2007 CIO 100 Award given annually by CIO magazine. The award marks the sixth time in the past seven years that the firm has been recognized by the magazine. The CIO 100 celebrates the top 100 organizations worldwide that exemplify the highest level of operational and strategic excellence in information technology (IT).

The 2007 honorees are recognized by CIO as organizations that have utilized information technology in innovative ways to deliver business value, whether by creating competitive advantage, optimizing business processes, enabling growth or improving relationships with customers.

Foley earned the CIO 100 award because of new technologies the firm developed to support its client service program, which is focused on developing IT tools and processes to increase the firm's ability to bring more value to its clients. Central to the initiative is the identification and development of best practices for attorney and professional staff client service teams drawing upon experience in diverse industries and geographical areas.

“We have invested significant resources in creating client interactive technology tools that have been of substantial value in demonstrating our commitment to innovative client service,” said Ralf Boer, the firm's chairman and CEO. “Our client interview process revealed the importance that our clients place on information technology capabilities.”

The technology tools developed by Foley include FOLEY:ClientSuite, an extranet that allows clients to track and manage matters and act as a repository for case files and other information. The firm also created a budget management tool, a report card to assess if the firm is meeting client expectations and an online portal and resource center that is the entry point and information page for the firm to view all client service initiatives.

“The key benefit of the technology is the ability to share knowledge easily across the entire client team regardless of office or practice group,” said Doug Caddell, the firm's chief information officer. “It also keeps the team completely informed on all important client information necessary to provide exemplary service.”

Foley received the CIO 100 award at the magazine's ninth annual CIO 100 Symposium® and Awards Ceremony at the La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, CA.

Feliciano Elected to ABA House of Delegates
José C. Feliciano, a partner in Baker Hostetler's Cleveland office, was recently elected to a three-year term as a Delegate-at-Large to the House of Delegates of the American Bar Association (ABA). Control and administration of the ABA is vested in the House of Delegates, the policy-making body of the association.

Feliciano was one of only six Delegates-at-Large to be elected from a national slate of nominees. This is the second term as a Delegate-at-Large to which Feliciano has been elected and in both the previous and most recent election, Feliciano secured the largest number of votes of any of the nominees.

As the policy-making body of the ABA—the national representative of the legal profession in the United States—the House of Delegates makes recommendations to Congress on principal issues facing the justice system, including tax reform, rule of law issues, and immigration reform and administration of U.S. immigration laws. Additionally, the House is responsible for promulgation of the ABA Model Code of Professional Responsibility, on which state bar associations base their Rules of Professional Conduct.

In addition to his new role, Mr. Feliciano is also a member of the ABA's Standing Committee on Federal Judiciary. The three-year appointment, which commenced in August 2006, is made by the President of the ABA and is based upon reputation for professional competence, integrity and devotion to public service.

Mr. Feliciano, who is also a member of the ABA's Latin America Law Initiative Advisory Council, previously served on the Board of Governors and House of Delegates of the ABA, and was formerly Chair of the ABA Section of Dispute Resolution and the ABA representative to the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws. In 2005, he received the "Spirit of Excellence" award given by the ABA's Commission on Racial and Ethnic Diversity in the Profession for his efforts to promote a more racially and ethnically diverse legal profession.
