King & Spalding's June e-Learn Program to Provide Strategies for Evaluating and Winning Appeals
As part of King & Spalding’s monthly e-Learn series, an hour-long web seminar entitled "Practical Advice on Preserving Error for Appeal, Evaluating Appeals, and Effective Appellate Advocacy" will be offered to King & Spalding clients on June 19, 2007 at 12:30 p.m. EDT. Speakers on the panel will include partner Reagan W. Simpson, counsel H. Victor Thomas and associate Robert B. Friedman. All three are members of King & Spalding's litigation practice group.

The seminar will address the following topics:

* How to preserve complaints for appeal in federal court while minimizing the potential annoyance of the judge and jury;
* Guidelines for evaluating whether a case should be appealed and types of arguments that are most likely to succeed on appeal; and
* Tips for effective written and oral advocacy in the appellate courts.

The seminar will be presented online from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. EDT. Clients of the firm will be able to participate online, or may view the program at the firm’s offices in Atlanta, Houston, London, New York, and Washington, D.C. Participants in the King & Spalding e-Learn Series generally receive CLE credit for attending the program.

Speakers
Reagan W. Simpson is a partner in King & Spalding's Houston office and a member of the firm's litigation practice group. His experience includes handling appellate and trial matters in the areas of tort, personal injury, commercial torts, insurance defense, and media law and defamation. Mr. Simpson has an active appellate and trial practice in both state and federal courts.

H. Victor Thomas is counsel with the King & Spalding's Houston office and a member of the firm's litigation practice group. He has over 22 years of trial and appellate experience in both business and personal injury litigation and has been board certified in civil appellate law with the Texas Board of Legal Specialization of the State Bar of Texas since 1988.

Robert B. Friedman is an associate with King & Spalding's litigation practice group, where he represents foreign and domestic companies in high exposure product liability, toxic tort and personal injury cases across the country. He is resident in the firm's Atlanta office

King & Spalding Represents Ashmore Energy International in Acquisition of El Salvador Utility
King & Spalding, a leading international law firm, represented Ashmore Energy International (AEI), in its recent acquisition of an indirect 86.41% stake in Distribuidora de Electricidad Del Sur, S.A. ("DelSur") from Pennsylvania-based utility owner and power producer, PPL Corporation.

The $180 million transaction is expected to close within a month.

With a distribution network exceeding 6,000km, DelSur serves some 291,000 customers in central and southern El Salvador.

AEI has more than 480MW of combined installed generation capacity in Guatemala, Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic. It also holds power distributor Elektra Noreste in Panama.

Deal Watch: City of Atlanta on its BeltLine Bonds
Hunton & Williams partner Douglass P. Selby is bond counsel to the City of Atlanta on its BeltLine bonds. The city plans to sell up to $1.66 billion in bonds financed via tax allocation districts, or called TADs, throughout the BeltLine, a 22-mile loop of underused rail lines and rights-of-way circling the city. The TAD-backed bonds have been challenged in a suit scheduled to be heard by the Supreme Court of Georgia in September, Woodham v. City of Atlanta, et al, No. S07A1309.

GODFREY & KAHN SHAREHOLDER TIMOTHY NIXON RE-ELECTED TO BOARD OF THE STATE BAR’S BANKRUPTCY SECTION
The law firm of Godfrey & Kahn, S.C. is pleased to announce the re-election of Timothy F. Nixon to the Board of Directors of the State Bar of Wisconsin’s Bankruptcy, Insolvency and Creditors’ Rights Section. As team leader of Godfrey & Kahn’s Business Finance and Restructuring Practice Group, Nixon represents clients in state and federal courts in all aspects of bankruptcy including debtors, secured creditors, creditor committees, asset purchasers, receivers and trustees. His clients include retail, manufacturing and construction companies, food processors, banks, financial institutions and other manufacturing and service business.

Nixon has served as President of the Western District Bankruptcy Bar Association. In addition to holding various memberships within national, state and regional associations, he frequently speaks about his involvement in municipal government.

Nixon received his bachelor’s degree, cum laude, in public and environmental administration from the University of Wisconsin – Green Bay and his law degree, cum laude, from the University of Wisconsin where he was a member of the Order of the Coif.

Frost Brown Todd Opens office in Northern Kentucky
Frost Brown Todd, one of the largest law firms in the region, announced the grand opening of its eighth office today. This office, located in Florence, Kentucky, just south of Cincinnati, is in addition to offices in Cincinnati, Middletown, and Columbus, Ohio, Lexington and Louisville, Kentucky, New Albany, Indiana and Nashville, Tennessee.

The opening of this office is a direct result of the Firm’s recent growth in the area and is evidence of the business community’s focus on the dynamic economic development of the Northern Kentucky marketplace. Ria Farrell Schalnat Joins CIPLA Leadership

Former Domestic Relations Court Magistrate Joins HHM
Harrington, Hoppe & Mitchell, Ltd., the area’s largest law firm, today announced that Deborah A. Kaufmann, a former domestic relations court magistrate, has joined the firm.

Kaufmann had served the Mahoning County Domestic Relations Court as a staff attorney and magistrate for 10 years. She is based in HHM’s Youngstown office and practices in the firm’s Litigation Group.

Kaufmann is a graduate of the Akron University School of Law. She also holds an undergraduate degree from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn., and a Master of Arts degree from Ohio State University.
