He is highly rated by both clients and the independent legal directories alike for his approach to major, complex and often multi-jurisdictional litigation. He has experience in the full range of alternative dispute resolution techniques, and is well-recognised in the industry for his advice relating to professional indemnity, product liability and for his work in the financial institutions sector. Chambers UK has cited Sean as"a pleasure to deal with and always has a solution," while the UK Legal 500 has referred to him as having "one of the best reputations in the market."

This newly created senior management position in London will support Sean in running the London office. He focuses on structured investment and development transactions, with recent projects including investment and development transactions in Germany, Italy and the US. In addition, Karen has in-depth knowledge of professional indemnity risks and product liability programmes. Working closely with the Finance, Corporate and Financial Restructuring & Insolvency Groups on cross-practice insurance and reinsurance issues, Karen also has a liaison role across the global firm on insurance industry-facing initiatives. Clients are agreed according to Chambers UK, 2007 that Karen is "Charismatic" and that she ".possesses sound business judgment and knows 'the right balance of when to be tough and when to be reasonable.'"

Andrew Stewart is appointed head of the Finance Committee in London with immediate effect. Andy has had operational responsibility for the running of the London Corporate group for many years and has been a member of the London Finance Committee since its inception. He was a part of the small group of partners charged with integration following the merger between Rowe & Maw and Mayer, Brown & Platt. Poyner & Spruill proudly sponsored a team made up of employees, friends and family in the American Cancer Society Relay For Life fundraiser in Nash County on April 27, 2007.

Deborah Sperati, a partner in the Rocky Mount office, headed up the team effort. The Poyner & Spruill group raised $5,629 and surpassed their $5K goal. The funds are part of the total of $247,808 raised by participants in Nash county to date to support the goals of the American Cancer Society.

“This was our sixth year of team participation and I think the best one yet,” said Deborah Sperati. “We always dedicate our team to the many survivors who participate. LOCKE LIDDELL & SAPP MANAGING PARTNER JERRY CLEMENTS NAMED ONE OF 50 MOST INFLUENTIAL WOMEN LAWYERS IN COUNTRY
Locke Liddell & Sapp Managing Partner Jerry Clements has been named one of the Top 50 Most Influential Women Lawyers in America by the National Law Journal. In its May 28, 2007 issue, the NLJ said its team of editors looked for women with "the demonstrated power to change the legal landscape, shape public affairs, launch industries and do big things." Although the list includes only women attorneys, NLJ concluded that, "The list reflects not just some of the most influential women lawyers, but some of the most influential lawyers, period."

This is what the National Law Journal wrote about Jerry Clements: “Clements is poised to lead a 700-attorney firm, presuming Locke Liddell's recently announced merger with Chicago's Lord, Bissell & Brook goes through. The litigator was lead trial counsel in a case that resulted in an oft-cited Texas Supreme Court decision limiting class action litigation in the state, as well as in a key case limiting franchise tax litigation. Clements has represented major clients including Microsoft Corp., ConocoPhillips and Peavey Electronics in litigation nationwide. She negotiated the return to the firm of former White House Counsel Harriet Miers and landed Mark Siegel, a well-known Democratic strategist and lobbyist, for the Washington office.”

King & Spalding Takes Over the No. 2 Spot in 2007 Arbitration Scorecard
King & Spalding, a leading international law firm, has earned the No. 2 spot in Focus Europe’s 2007 Arbitration Scorecard issue, which includes rankings of law firms appearing as arbitration counsel. The rankings were published in the summer 2007 issue of Focus Europe and represent the magazine’s third biannual survey of international arbitration.

"King & Spalding dominates the list of treaty arbitrations," Focus Europe reported. King & Spalding appeared as arbitration counsel in 19 treaty arbitrations—more treaty arbitrations than any of the other 30 firms listed in the rankings. King & Spalding also appeared in 6 contract arbitrations.

King & Spalding was also included in Focus Europe’s list of Ten Big Awards for the firm’s representation of Azurix Corp in a dispute against the government of Argentina. King & Spalding partners R. Doak Bishop and Craig S. Miles obtained an award of $165 million, plus interest, for client Azurix.

Bishop, head of the firm's international arbitration practice, was singled out for praise by the magazine. Focus Europe said, "No Houston arbitration practice has been busier than that of King & Spalding’s Bishop, who is the leading investment treaty lawyer for claims based on the Argentine peso crisis of 2001-02, with ten anti-Argentine claims appearing in the survey."

The 2007 Arbitration Scorecard covers international arbitrations (not limited to Europe) that were active between January 2005 and June 2007.

King & Spalding has one of the leading international arbitration practices in the world, specializing in oil and gas disputes, energy disputes, foreign investment disputes against governments and disputes involving Latin American projects. Lawyers in the firm's international arbitration group have represented major U.S. and foreign companies, as well as foreign state-owned companies. Arbitrated disputes in which firm lawyers have been involved have ranged from $1 million to more than $1 billion.
