Baker & McKenzie Acts on Debut Eurobond Offering for XXI Century Public Investments Limited
Baker & McKenzie has acted for XXI Century Public Investments Limited (XXI Century) on its debut US$175 million Eurobond listed on Luxembourg Stock Exchange's Euro MTF Market.

XXI Century Public Investments Limited is one of Ukraine's leading real estate investment, development and property management companies. In December 2005, it completed its initial public offering of shares on the AIM Market of the London Stock Exchange and remains Ukraine's only publicly listed real estate company listed on the AIM Market. Baker & McKenzie also acted for XXI Century on its IPO.

XXI Century will use the net proceeds from the issue of the Notes primarily to finance the development and construction of its existing projects as well as expand its business through selective acquisitions of individual land plots and property portfolios in Kyiv and in other major cities throughout Ukraine, and to reduce its existing indebtedness.

Baker & McKenzie Capital Markets partner, Peter Magyar, said: ''Following the success of its IPO, we are delighted to have acted for XXI Century on its debut Eurobond transaction. Real estate is a booming sector in the CIS and this is one of a series of real estate capital market transactions on which we are advising in the region.''

The Baker & McKenzie team in London consisted of Peter Magyar and Chris Hogan (Partners), Kate Rea (associate) and Natalie Ball (trainee solicitor). The Baker & McKenzie team in Kyiv was led by Serhiy Chorny (Partner) and assisted by Glib Bondar (associate) and Mykola Stetsenko (associate).

ING acted as sole bookrunner and manager of the offering, and was advised by Linklaters LLP as to English law and Sayenko Kharenko as to Ukrainian law.

The United States Attorney's Office for the Western District of Pennsylvania has selected New York partner George Stamboulidis to serve as the outside independent monitor of Mellon Bank, N.A. (Mellon).

Stamboulidis, along with New York partners Lauren Resnick and John Carney, will be responsible for oversight of Mellon's compliance with the terms and conditions of an August 2006 settlement agreement with the U.S. Attorney's Office and will conduct annual assessments of that compliance, providing detailed written reports to the United States Attorney.

Holland & Hart Leads Two New Diversity Initiatives
Holland & Hart LLP announces a Summer Associate Diversity Scholarship and an Academic Year Diversity Law Clerk Program.

Holland & Hart is the first firm in the Rocky Mountain region to offer a $10,000 Summer Associate Diversity Scholarship for second year law students. This scholarship will be available to students at the University of Colorado School of Law and the University of Denver Sturm College of Law beginning summer 2008. Each year the firm's Diversity and Recruitment Committees will choose a student who will receive $10,000 to be applied toward law school tuition or other expenses. Additionally, the scholarship recipient will work as a paid 2008 summer associate. This new Summer Associate Diversity Scholarship is in addition to the firm's current Diversity Scholarships, which are offered to incoming first year law students at both the University of Colorado and University of Denver and have recently increased to an award of $7500 at each school.

Holland & Hart has also established an Academic Year Diversity Law Clerk Program, which will be launched at the beginning of the 2007-2008 academic year. Clerks hired through this program will work part-time at the firm during their second or third year of law school. Selection criteria include strong academic credentials, ethnic and racial background, sexual orientation, disability, and previous career experience.

"These two new initiatives illustrate our commitment to stay on the cutting-edge of diversity recruitment efforts," said firm Chair, Paul Phillips. "We see this as a business necessity because we recognize the strength of talent and breadth of perspective that come from a diverse workforce."

"We share Holland & Hart's concern for making the legal profession more diverse, better reflecting the client community and the state as a whole," said David Getches, Dean of the University of Colorado School of Law. "The opportunities in this new program will be invaluable to our students."

Dean Beto Juarez from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law states, "This program is a concrete demonstration of Holland & Hart's continuing commitment to diversity in the legal profession. The firm's acknowledgement of diversity as a vital component of our profession will greatly benefit our students and our society."

Holland & Hart has been a long-time leader in diversity initiatives. The firm was the first to adopt the Colorado Pledge to Racial and Ethnic Diversity. It also led 23 other Denver law firms of all sizes to sign and adopt the pledge in 1993 and again in 2000.

GARRIGUES NAMED ‘TAX FIRM OF THE YEAR’ IN SPAIN FOR THE THIRD CONSECUTIVE YEAR
Garrigues has been named ‘Tax Firm of the Year’ in Spain for the third year running by the International Tax Review at the third annual European Tax Awards, which aim to reward excellence at European tax firms over the last year. The Firm was also nominated in the “Best Transfer Pricing Firm in Spain” category. Garrigues Portugal received nominations in both categories.

The awards panel evaluated the body of tax-related work performed by Garrigues in 2006, including the provision of advisory services in major deals, such as the takeover of Arcelor by Mittal Steel, for which Garrigues was awarded the IFLR prize for the “M&A Deal of the Year” in March.

Garrigues’ tax practice currently has more than 540 professionals, of whom 74 are partners. Alongside the practice’s reputation, the panel looked at the international expansion of the Firm over the last year. The opening of an office in Warsaw, the consolidation of Garrigues’ international offices, and the growth and profile of the Affinitas international alliance and the Taxand network all contributed to achieving the award.

Taxand
In addition to Garrigues, two other Taxand member firms were also named “Tax Firm of the Year” in their respective countries: Bech-Brunn (Denmark) and Atoz (Luxembourg). Taxand, the independent tax network of which Garrigues is a founding member, currently has 38 member firms across five continents, with over 1,500 professionals, 300 of whom are partners.
