The complete national and metropolitan rankings will appear in the July/August issue of Corporate Board Member and can be accessed online at www.boardmember.com/issues/current.
About the Survey
Corporate Board Member surveyed directors serving on boards of publicly traded companies listed with the NASDAQ, New York, or American Stock Exchanges. The directors were divided into groups based on the location of their companies within metropolitan statistical areas (MSAs). Directors in each of the 25 MSAs featured received a questionnaire specific to their location that included a list of 20 local firms and two write-in options. To be included in the list, each firm had to practice business, corporate, or commercial law and had to be one of the 20 largest firms in its area by number of attorneys. Corporate Board Member compiled the lists of local law firms using Martindale-Hubbell's Law Directory. Respondents were asked to select the five local law firms, from the list provided or as a write-in, they would most likely select to aid their companies on a broad range of corporate legal issues. The top five law firms in each MSA are listed in the magazine based on the number of votes received.

Blank Rome, GT Power Group Form Strategic Alliance to Provide Legal and Government Affairs Services to Energy Industry
Today’s global energy industry is in a near-constant state of change, impacted by regulatory, economic, and political issues in the U.S. and around the world that raise new and complex challenges for energy providers and consumers alike. With this situation in mind, Blank Rome today announced a strategic alliance with GT Power Group, a King of Prussia–based firm which crafts regulatory, political, and legal strategies for electric, telecommunications, natural gas, and water companies across the country. Through their partnership, the companies will work together to provide a full suite of legal, public affairs, and strategic communications services to companies throughout the energy industry.

Currently, Blank Rome’s national energy practice provides a full spectrum of legal and government affairs services to electric and gas companies. The Firm’s experience with energy and utility companies, and the regulatory environment in which they operate, provides a unique understanding of the needs of the industry and how legal and lobbying resources can work together to advance business goals. GT Power Group is a newly formed venture led by Glen Thomas, a former partner with Blank Rome and former chairman of the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission. Focusing on the development of regulatory, political, and legal strategies, the group will work with companies in all facets of the energy industry.

“As the energy industry continues to be significantly impacted by factors including deregulation, price fluctuation, consolidation and privatization, and environmental controls, we are thrilled to enter into this strategic alliance,” said Carl M. Buchholz, managing partner and chief executive officer of Blank Rome. “This partnership brings together both companies’ unique strengths in government relations, the law, and strategic communications, all of which will bring added value for current and future clients. Additionally, it strengthens Blank Rome’s already-established energy practice, giving clients access to an additional, specialized resource.”

“To compete and win in today’s energy markets, a different type of representation is required—one that combines a deep knowledge of the law with the regulatory and political insights that lead to success,” said Glen Thomas, president of GT Power Group. “Clients will be the ultimate winners from the Blank Rome–GT Power Group strategic alliance as they realize how this powerful combination produces the results they desire.”
