G&K Voted a Top Corporate Law Firm
Gallagher & Kennedy, P.A., a full service business law firm, is proud to announce that Corporate Board Member magazine ranked the firm as one of the top five corporate law firms in Phoenix for 2007.

Corporate Board Member’s yearly analysis identifies the top five corporate law firms in 25 cities along with ranking the top 20 corporate law firms nationally. The results of the analysis were announced June 11, 2007 for this seventh annual Legal Industry Research Study, which is sponsored by FTI, a Baltimore based consulting firm.

For the second consecutive year, Gallagher & Kennedy was ranked among the top five corporate firms in Phoenix, moving up to second place on the 2007 list. “Doing well in our survey has become a singular badge of honor, for the very reason that it doesn’t come from the law firms’ peers,” said William S. Rukeyser, editorial director of Corporate Board Member. “It’s an accolade from their customers – the directors, executives and general counsel who hire them, pay their bills, and thrive or suffer from their advice.”

About the Survey
Corporate Board Member surveyed directors serving on boards of publicly traded companies listed with the NASDAQ, New York, or American Stock Exchanges. The Directors were divided into groups based on the location of their companies within metropolitan statistical areas (MSAs). Directors in each of the 25 MSAs featured received a questionnaire specific to their location that included a list of 20 local firms and two write-in options. To be included in the list, each firm had to practice business, corporate, or commercial law and had to be one of the 20 largest firms in its area by number of attorneys. Corporate Board Member compiled the lists of the local law firms using Martindale-Hubbell’s Law Directory. Respondents were asked to select the five local law firms, from the list provided or as a write-in, they would most likely select to aid their companies on a broad range of corporate legal issues. The top five law firms in each MSA are listed in the magazine based on the number of votes received.

Ropes & Gray recognizes four in awards ceremony
Reflecting the core values of the firm, Ropes & Gray presented awards for pro bono service, contribution to diversity and commitment to community service to two attorneys and two staff members at a June 5 awards ceremony.

Kate Cimini, a litigation associate, received the fourth annual Deborah Levi Award for Outstanding Pro Bono Service. Cimini was recognized for her administration of the firm's work on behalf of the Political Asylum / Immigration Representation Project. Last year, Ropes & Gray handled more than 40 active matters for PAIR, providing more than $1 million worth of legal services to individuals fleeing persecution in their home countries.

Rajib Chanda, a corporate associate practicing in the firm's office in Washington, D.C., received this year's Trent Hankins Award for Outstanding Contribution to Diversity. Chanda was recognized for engineering strategies to attract a diverse class of summer associates to Ropes & Gray. Partially as a result of Rajib's efforts, this year's class of summer associates at the firm is the most diverse in the firm's history.

The firm's inaugural Award for Outstanding Commitment to Community Service was presented to two legal secretaries – Cheryll Leone and Susan Minor. They were cited for their work conceiving and expanding Ropes & Gray's extraordinarily successful "Project Backpack" program, which allows hundreds of disadvantaged Boston-area children to begin the school year on a positive note. Minor launched the project in 1999, and Leone expanded it in 2005. From its modest beginning, the program in 2006 provided 949 backpacks filled with new clothes and school supplies to area homeless children.

At the June 5 ceremony, Managing Partner John T. Montgomery set the tone by observing that pro bono, diversity, and community service reflect the core values of Ropes & Gray. "They are areas where we've devoted significant effort to improve performance," said Montgomery. "And they are all areas where we have much to celebrate."

Baker & McKenzie - A Top 10 Best Corporate Law Firm in America Also Named Top Five Corporate Law Firm in Chicago
Baker & McKenzie is among the top 10 best corporate law firms U.S. directors and general counsel would turn to for legal matters, according to Corporate Board Member magazine. The Firm ranked eighth in the top 20 national corporate law firms for 2007, moving up from its eleventh spot last year. Baker & McKenzie has also been named one of the best law firms in Chicago, ranking fifth.

“It is very gratifying to receive this recognition from U.S. publicly traded companies. We have been making a concerted effort to deliver world-class client service to this elite corporate sector,“ said John Conroy, Chairman of the Executive Committee. “We continue to focus on our strategic positioning of Baker & McKenzie as the counsel of choice to leading companies in the major global economies.”

The top 20 corporate law firms national rankings are based on a survey of more than 800 directors and over 230 general counsel of publicly traded companies conducted by Corporate Board Member magazine and FTI Consulting, a global business advisory firm. They also polled directors working in 25 major U.S. metropolitan areas to identify the top five law firms in those respective areas.

In addition to these rankings, Baker & McKenzie also ranked fifteenth, up two places from last year, in Corporate Board Member/FTI Consulting’s survey of corporate general counsel on which law firms they would most want to represent their companies on national matters. The Firm is one of only eighteen law firms who made both—the top 20 and GC—lists.

Commenting on the rankings, David Hackett, North American Managing Partner, added: “It is truly an honor to be recognized by our clients. We’ve made great strides in enhancing our already strong core practice groups, especially the corporate practice, and look forward to our continued success.”
