Quinn Emanuel Gains Hedge Fund Litigation Specialist
We are pleased to announce that Robert S. Loigman is joining the firm’s New York office as a partner. Mr. Loigman has twelve years of complex commercial litigation experience, specializing in hedge fund and other securities cases.

Prior to joining Quinn Emanuel, Bob was a partner with Friedman Kaplan Seiler & Adelman, LLP, where he represented the Joint Official Liquidators of the failed Beacon Hill Master Fund (and its feeder funds) in multiple actions against major accounting firms, banking institutions, and the funds’ investment manager. He also represented a group of investors in the Beacon Hill funds in related litigation asserting separate, direct investor-owned claims. Bob served as counsel to the Litigation Advisory Board of the Granite funds, another set of CMO-focused investment funds, when claims were brought against several broker-dealers after the demise of those funds. Though focused on litigation within the securities industry, Bob has represented clients in a wide array of complex cases.

This past February, Bob was selected as a panelist at MARHedge’s Annual European Conference on Alternative Investments in Geneva, Switzerland to discuss “Hedge Fund Blowups.” He graduated magna cum laude from Harvard Law School in 1993, where he served as Developments Editor of the Harvard Law Review. In 1990, he graduated first in his class from Amherst College. After law school, he clerked for The Honorable J. Harvie Wilkinson of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.

Kathleen Sullivan Named One of 50 Most Influential Women Lawyers
Kathleen Sullivan of the firm’s Silicon Valley Office was selected by The National Law Journal as one of “The 50 Most Influential Women Lawyers in America.” This is the first time since 2001 that The National Law Journal has published a list honoring female attorneys who have had a significant impact in their fields.

Levine Co-Authors Paper on "Problems in the Boardroom"
Partner Ron Levine is co-author of the American Health Lawyers Association's Corporate Governance Task Force white paper entitled "Problems In The Boardroom: Some Lessons Learned From The Hewlett-Packard Company." This paper explains the events surrounding the much criticized investigation of members of the H-P Board of Directors, and actions of the Chairman of the Board and other individuals which led to the filing of criminal charges. Much is to be learned by this case, including errors made by company officials, as well as how best to conduct an internal company investigation. Insights are offered to guide both in-house and outside counsel in this sensitive area.

Assistant Secretary General Cedric Thornberry, will travel to Ukraine in August in advance of the parliamentary elections set for September. The delegation will monitor the pre-election activities to ensure they are free of pressure, intimidation and harrassment of voters.

Debevoise Advises Investor Group In Merger Agreement For Sale Of Cumulus Media
Debevoise & Plimpton LLP is advising an investor group led by Lewis W. Dickey, Jr., Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Cumulus Media Inc., and an affiliate of Merrill Lynch Global Private Equity in connection with the execution of a definitive merger agreement under which the investor group will acquire Cumulus in a transaction valued at approximately $1.3 billion.

Merrill Lynch Global Private Equity is the private equity investment arm of Merrill Lynch & Co., Inc. Cumulus Media Inc. is the second-largest radio company in the United States based on station count. Debevoise & Plimpton LLP is a leading international law firm with offices in New York, Washington D.C., London, Paris, Frankfurt, Moscow, Hong Kong and Shanghai.

The Debevoise team includes partners Franci J. Blassberg and Stephen R. Hertz and associates Stefan P. Stauder and Suzie C. Alway.

Wacker Construction Equipment in €405 Million IPO
Cleary Gottlieb represented Deutsche Bank AG, Sal. Oppenheim, Jr. and UBS Ltd. as underwriters in the €405 million IPO of Wacker Construction Equipment AG. The IPO included both a public offering in Germany and an international private placement with institutional investors (including in the U.S. under Rule 144A). The shares began trading in the official market of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange (prime standard) on May 15.

Wacker Construction Equipment is headquartered in Munich and is a leading European manufacturer of light and compact equipment for the construction business.
