Lawyers behaving badly

Subject: Thank you

Dear Attorney Korman,

At this time, I am writing to inform you that I will not be accepting your offer.

After careful consideration, I have come to the conclusion that the pay you are offering would neither fulfill me nor support the lifestyle I am living in light of the work I would be doing for you. I have decided instead to work for myself, and reap 100% of the benefits that I sew.

Thank you for the interviews.

Dianna L. Abdala, Esq.

Dianna -

Given that you had two interviews, were offered and accepted the job (indeed, you had a definite start date), I am surprised that you chose an e-mail and a 9:30 PM voicemail message to convey this information to me. It smacks of immaturity and is quite unprofessional. Indeed, I did rely upon your acceptance by ordering stationary and business cards with your name, reformatting a computer and setting up both internal and external e-mails for you here at the office. While I do not quarrel with your reasoning, I am extremely disappointed in the way this played out. I sincerely wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors.

- Will Korman

A real lawyer would have put the contract into writing and not exercised any such reliance until he did so.

Again, thank you.

Thank you for the refresher course on contracts. This is not a bar exam question. You need to realize that this is a very small legal community, especially the criminal defense bar. Do you really want to start pissing off more experienced lawyers at this early stage of your career?

OH MY GOD!

Where to begin?

First of all, how unprofessional.and secondly, it is "reap what you 'sow,'" now "sew".if she is going to use a clich?, couldn't she at least spell it right? And WTF is with her "blab la bla"? Does she not read your e-mail about it being a small community?! So, finally, can I forward this along to some folks? I am sure they would love to see how the up-and-coming lawyers are comporting themselves! (Clearly she did not go to BU!!!) J

Read from the bottom to the top.there was an intervening exchange of voice mails as well.as you can imagine, they were as unprofessional as her e-mails.

from there the email was sent to almost every attorney in boston and eventually it got all the way to me. so learn from diana. don't be a dick.

apparently, this is just a portion of the full communications between the two children and rest of the Boston Bar Association....

what happened to her? did she get sued by the law firm for revenue "losses" or reimbursement of expenses for the stationaries and cards that she never did use?

c'mon, more mud, please, about the bs that happens "up there" among the attorney levels. this is a nice change from the support staff bashing each other.

the more i read about this, the more i firmly support dianna for being a dick. korman is unimpressive. good work on the gossip though, it is interesting. it just happens to make him look like a bigger horse's ass than her.

Dianna the trust fund baby sounds like a spoiled jerk. (Ooooooh, she had to work hard in law school!) I doubt she'll ever be a great lawyer, but she's already a great argument in favor of the estate tax.

Oh, baby. You are so talented. And, they are so dumb.

i agree, but diana did have an actual legal contract, yes? there is offer/acceptance and the parties are competent. well, at least for the purposes of establishing the validity of a legal contract, i would say.

however, i was abhorred at how the guy just basically humiliated the girl like that. what i got from all that is that she mispelled sow as "sew"... what damage was done to the law firm that justified spreading the email like that? is that ethical? my professors failed to mention this kind of stuff in my legal ethics class.

worst i can tell, is that there's another competition, but then again, she's a fairly new attorney, so she couldn't be that much of a threat to an already established law firm. then again, maybe he was offended that she knew her real worth and that she had the guts to go it on her own. her compensation was conviently left out of the email chain.

well, i'm not sure how far that goes in an at-will employment situation. as for the rest, i'm sure there's a lot of theories. spite is probably in the top 5.
