Riggs Abney

What is the reputation of this firm?  I am told they are actively looking for experienced transactional associates.  Their real estate practice is nationwide and growing.

With all due respect, three offices in Oklahoma does not a national practice make.

Well, they do also have an office in Denver Colorado. But I think your point is valid.

Keep up that attitude, big law. Mid-market firms like Riggs Abney are taking your clients in droves!  One-half the billing rate for the same quality work?  Hmmmm, doesnt't take long for most companies to move their work to mid-market law firms.

I have know people who have worked there before, and they seemed to enjoy it.

This firm is NOT a great place to work.  They grossly underpay the attorneys and the support staff.  They are constantly complaining about cash flow problems and show gross favoritism.  They are not interested in loyalty or in people who work hard.  They withdraw benefits that were promised when you are hired and they reduce salaries for no reason.  They dispose of older, higher paid associates and staff and replace them with inexperienced and cheaper people.  Do not go to work for this firm!!!

I agree.  Andres Kurth recently forced "yearly retirement" of staff.  I suppose to make themselves look like they are stable rather than laying off because they can use this excuse.  The administrative staff over the staff are not professional. They claim to have the staff work under a team support.   It does not work and Admin does not make it work for their favorites.  They complain about the cash flow as this writer stated.  It is definitely not the best place to work.  It is only a work place.  The spirit of Texas, I guess.  It is very impersonal place to work.  There is nothing in place to foster a team mentality.  It is not family-oriented as they claim.  They couldn't care less about you or your family (within reason yes).  If employers weren't using the economy as a reason to layoff, underpay or not hire at all, I would not work here a minute longer but reality indicates that I need to keep this job until I collapse from frustration and stress or an opportunity arises.  I would say I genuinely hate working here.

They have lost several of their most experienced and productive mid-level partners, and have replaced them with lower quality (and lower priced) laterals.  But the departing partners are taking their clients with them.  Lots of "dead wood" in the senior ranks to support....but less revenue to support them.  Stay away from these guys.

Also very secretive management.  The "management committee" doesn't even make decisions.  All decision making power is in a small group of the most senior partners.
