			<title>Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell &amp; Berkowitz, P.C.</title>
			<description>Address : 165 Madison Avenue, Phone : 901-526-2000, City : Memphis</description>
<News:newsheading>Technology industry veteran and Nashville native Steve Wood Jr., has joined Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell &amp; Berkowitz, PC as Of Counsel, bringing the number of Nashville attorneys in the technology group to 11.

&quot;We pursued Steve because of his unique background in the business of technology,&quot; said Bruce Doeg, managing shareholder of Baker Donelson's Nashville office and co-founder of the firm's Business Technology Group. &quot;As a former tech company CEO, he understands the practical technology and business challenges that business owners face and is able to help them better balance the legal issues.&quot;

Mr. Wood brings to his law practice an unusual background that includes business experience in both commercial real estate finance and the vertical market software industry. He began his career as a commercial construction lender with a major bank in Charlotte, North Carolina, for three years before returning to Nashville as a commercial mortgage banker for two more years. Mr. Wood then attended law school at Vanderbilt, where he began work on a software application for automating the administration of commercial mortgage investment portfolios.

While practicing law in Nashville in the 1990s, he co-founded a business with his father to bring the technology to market, and he eventually left law practice to devote full attention to running the growing software business. The company achieved a 35% market share and was acquired by a NYSE-listed firm, and Mr. Wood stayed for two more years as division executive with the acquiring company.

Mr. Wood then spent five years as a full-time faculty member of Vanderbilt Law School, concentrating on practical business transactional law, and as an adjunct professor of entrepreneurship at Vanderbilt's Owen Graduate School of Management. During that time he also worked as a business consultant and advisor to technology-oriented businesses.

The Business Technology group at Baker Donelson helps clients navigate the complex and wide-ranging issues of eBusiness and technology. The group's attorneys have a broad range of experience working with traditional companies incorporating technology, as well as business-to-business and business-to-consumer companies, eHealth concerns, financial service companies, eSolutions providers, capital sources and infrastructure companies.</News:newsheading>

<News:newsheading>Too often, talented, ambitious students achieve success and satisfaction in law school only to find their afterlife as an associate in an impersonal, internally competitive law firm to be devoid of satisfaction.

Not so for associates at the 125-lawyer, Rochester-based firm of Harter Secrest &amp; Emery LLP. For the third year in a row, HSE has earned the #1 ranking nationally in a survey of midlevel associate satisfaction conducted by The American Lawyer.

The 2006 survey of third, fourth and fifth year associates at hundreds of firms across the United States probed into associates' levels of job satisfaction, including their relationships with fellow associates as well as partners, and their access to meaningful training and guidance, to pro bono work, and to interesting, high quality work assignments with significant responsibility.

As in 2004 and 2005, HSE earned the honor as "the best place to work" among all participating law firms, something managing partner Maureen Alston called &quot;&quot;a wonderful reflection on every player on the HSE team." Ms. Alston noted that "HSE's culture of teamwork and mutual respect, by design, encourages our lawyers to compete externally, not internally, and provides early opportunities for lawyers to grow and succeed as professionals. We believe this naturally leads to satisfied, well rounded associates who develop quickly into legal counselors and leaders.</News:newsheading>

<News:newsheading>The American Lawyer has been surveying midlevel associate satisfaction at law firms for two decades - the 2006 version is just out - and this much is clear: little has improved since 1986. The overall satisfaction score was 3.7 (out of 5) in 1986; today it's 3.78.What's more striking is a comparison of associate gripes: A Kirkland &amp; Ellis associate recently reported to the magazine: "[Kirkland] is asking too much of too few. No one should make the money you make on the backs of people working around the clock. Take fewer cases, hire more people." The 1986 version of this complaint? "As [the firm] grows larger and makes more money," reported an Akin Gump Strauss Hauer &amp; Feld associate, "being an associate means I do not share in the increased profits . . . but nonetheless do share in the tensions and changes caused by growth."

That said, times have changed. According to the survey, partners familiar with both eras report that associate life is more demanding than it used to be. "Today, the pace is totally different," reported Philip "Pete" Ruegger III, chair of Simpson Thacher &amp; Bartlett. "You used to send a letter and wait for a reply or hand-deliver a memo and wait for a reply." Not so anymore, in a world of FedEx and email attachments.p

Oh yeah, the survey results? Once again, Rochester, N.Y.-based Harter, Secrest &amp; Emery finished atop the rankings (must be that clean upstate drinking water); with Finnegan, Henderson, Farabow, Garrett &amp; Dunner finishing second, and Dickstein Shapiro; Nutter, McLennan &amp; Fish; and Munger, Tolles &amp; Olson finishing third, fourth and fifth, respectively.

What about last year's bottom feeders, profiled by Ashby Jones in a recent WSJ.com article? It's a mixed bag. Proskauer Rose and Cahill, Gordon &amp; Reindell again finished fairly low in the survey (though not at the bottom). The news was better, however, for Curtis, Mallet-Prevost, Colt &amp; Mosle, which jumped nearly 100 slots in the rankings.</News:newsheading>

<News:newsheading>The employees of Butler, Snow, O'Mara, Stevens &amp; Cannada, PLLC, have declared the firm one of the Best Places to Work in Mississippi for 2006, according to a Mississippi Business Journal annual survey.
With more than 225 employees in the firm's Mississippi offices, Butler Snow was announced winner of the Large Company category during the Awards Kick-off Breakfast for the 23rd Annual Mississippi Business &amp; Technology Expo January 18.
"Butler Snow strives to create an environment where hard work is valued and recognized," said Julie Yancey, Butler Snow's Director of Human Resources. "In turn, there is a great sense of family and camaraderie within the firm where everyone is ultimately working for the overall good of our clients."
The survey and awards program are designed to identify, recognize and honor the best places of employment in the state, and recognition is based on results from an online survey of company employees. All Mississippi-based employees were encouraged to participate in the survey, which consisted of 60 rating-scale questions, two open-ended questions and seven demographic questions. Employees were asked to rate the firm in areas including common purpose, culture and values, learning and development, performance and recognition and communication and cooperation.
Southern Research Group, an independent marketing firm, provided all analysis and findings from survey participants. Butler Snow, along with other category winners, will be profiled by the Mississippi Business Journal in a March 2006 special publication of the Best Places to Work.
Butler Snow is one of the largest law firms in the Mid-South. Recently celebrating its 50th anniversary, Butler Snow has been a leading presence in the Southeastern legal community since 1954. <News:newsheading>Don Clark, a Mississippi native with more than 30 years' experience in governmental, business, and municipal bond law, is the new Chair of Butler, Snow, O'Mara, Stevens &amp; Cannada, PLLC.
Clark, who joined Butler Snow in 1998, plans to continue his practice as he takes on his new management duties. "I'll focus on executing our strategic plans," Clark said. "We want to build on our reputation as an outstanding regional law firm, with national experience in areas like healthcare litigation.
"We've got a great staff, and I plan to rely on them," Clark said. He credits his predecessor, Steve Rosenblatt, with moving Butler Snow over the past eight years from being a strong "Mississippi" firm to one with a regional and national reputation. Butler Snow, with more than 140 attorneys, has Jackson, Memphis and Gulf Coast offices. The Memphis office has grown from one attorney to 36, and the Coast Office now has 12 attorneys.
Butler Snow's focus on client service sets it apart, according to Clark, who cited the firm's high client satisfaction marks in a recent survey. "But those results only give us a higher goal to shoot for," Clark said. "We have already implemented changes, like not charging clients for routine expenses, that will help us serve clients better."
Clark, a native of Waynesboro, has a degree in political science from the University of Southern Mississippi and a law degree from the University of Mississippi. He began his legal career with the Mississippi Attorney General's office and then moved to the law firm of Crosthwait Terney &amp; Noble, where he built a municipal bond practice.
Clark was attracted to Butler Snow because of its energetic leadership, its commitment to client service and its plans for growth. First as leader of the Public Finance and Governmental Affairs Group and then as Chairman of the Business Department, Clark has used his knowledge of how government, politics and law intersect to serve a range of private and public clients. Clark and Patti, his wife of 25 years, have two sons
"Butler Snow is committed to serving clients, locally, regionally and nationally, across a range of practice areas," Clark said. "I'm excited at the opportunity to help lead the firm forward."

<News:newsheading>Jury returned a verdict in favor of our client Static Control Components in its case against Lexmark International. Lexmark had alleged patent infringement and active inducement of patent infringement against Static Control and sought damages of 100 million dollars. The jury found that, not only was Static Control not liable under the patent laws, but that Lexmark had misused its patents resulting in an unreasonable restraint on competition. As a result, a defense verdict was entered in favor of Static Control and Lexmark took nothing on its claims. Craig Robertson and Mickey Webster were the lead Wyatt lawyers on the case, working in collaboration with Joseph Smith of Barlit, Beck, Herman, Pelancher &amp; Scott.

Static Control Components is the world's largest manufacturer and global distributor of parts and supplies supporting the laser toner remanufacturing industry. It's product line features more than 11,000 products, basically everything needed to professionally remanufacture laser toner cartridges. Lexmark International is one of the world's largest printer manufacturers for homes and offices.

The decision is viewed as a win for consumers and their right to choose from whom they would buy their cartridges. &quot;I think this is a very pro-consumer, money-saving, economically sound decision for the American consumer,&quot; said Static Control CEO Ed Swartz. Analysts spoke of how a verdict for Lexmark could have drastically changed the market for toner cartridges, and hailed Static Control for standing up to the printer manufacturers on behalf of the aftermarket.

The verdict was a culmination of 5 years of contentious litigation.</News:newsheading>
