<News:newsheading>The law firm Stoel Rives LLP is pleased to announce that Lourdes Fuentes has joined the firm as Director of Lawyer Recruiting and Diversity. Based in Seattle, she will supervise Stoel Rives' firmwide law student and attorney recruiting programs, as well as manage efforts to recruit and retain attorneys who contribute to the firm's diversity.

Fuentes has more than a decade of legal experience. Much of her substantial community involvement has focused on career pipeline, recruitment and retention issues. The Washington State Supreme Court appointed her to its Minority and Justice Commission and later to its Gender and Justice Commission. She served on both commissions until 2005, helping organize educational sessions for the statewide conference for judges and serving on the Minority Advisory Council to the Glass Ceiling Task Force.

Most recently, Fuentes was director of the University of Washington School of Law's Immigration Law Clinic and has recruited and mentored law students through the Alumni Ambassadors program. She has twice been named one of Seattle's Top Lawyers by Seattle Magazine. In addition, she was honored with the Outstanding Lawyer Award from the Latina/o Bar Association of Washington in 2004.

"We are excited to have someone of Lourdes' talent and experience leading our recruitment team," says Beth Ugoretz, Stoel Rives' Managing Partner. "She is eminently qualified to help further our firm's commitment to diversity and attract top attorneys."

A frequent presenter at schools, conferences and continuing legal education classes, Fuentes recently spoke at the American Conference Institute's Fourth National Forum on Law Firm Diversity and at the American Bar Association's national conference "Adversity Within Diversity: Understanding Other Communities." She has also been active in numerous professional and community organizations.

"Lourdes' position is a new step in our continuing efforts to foster an inclusive professional environment that respects and values differences," comments Robert Hirshon, the firm's Chief Operating Officer. "Stoel Rives recognizes diversity as both a positive social value and a vital ingredient in business innovation, and considers it one of the firm's core values." The firm's goals include successfully recruiting, developing and retaining attorneys and staff of diverse backgrounds and characteristics, as well as supporting diversity in its communities.</News:newsheading>

<News:newsheading>The law firm Stoel Rives LLP is proud to announce that its Chief Operating Officer, Robert Hirshon, has been named chair of the American Bar Association (ABA) Commission on Second Season of Service. He will serve a one-year term as chair, beginning on August 14 at the end of the ABA's annual meeting.

The Commission on Second Season of Service represents the ABA's recognition that lawyers reaching the final stages of their careers do not necessarily want to hang up their briefcases and leave the law. The commission's goal is to help transition those of its members who wish to continue practicing law with a new career pathway, as a form of public service or in some combination of the two.

Hirshon was president of the ABA from 2001 through 2002, and is a well-known lawyer, writer and speaker. He recently joined Stoel Rives after serving as chief executive officer at Tonkon Torp since 2003. Before that, Hirshon practiced law for 30 years with the Portland, Maine firm of Drummond, Woodsum & MacMahon. He does not currently practice law and is not licensed to practice in Oregon.
