			<News:newsheading>Adams and Reese Partner and Executive Committee Chair Ann Huckstep has been named &quot;Businesswoman of the Year&quot; by the Birmingham Business Journal. She will be recognized at a luncheon on October 25, 2007 along with 10 other businesswomen named among the &quot;Top Birmingham Women for 2007&quot;, an honor that Huckstep received in 2005. She is profiled in a full-page article in the September 14th edition of the Birmingham Business Journal.

Huckstep was chosen to receive this honor, most notably for making firm history as the first female ever chair the firm's Executive Committee, a position she began in November 2006. However, making history is nothing new to Huckstep. In 1971, her classmates voted her "Most Likely to Succeed." She was the first young woman ever to receive that title, but was stripped of the honor and told that her peers were supposed to have voted for a boy. Since then, Huckstep's career has been marked by many great accomplishments in her profession and in her community, and many notable "first female" titles.

In 1992, the health care attorney was the first female elected to serve on the Executive Committee of Lange, Simpson, Robinson &amp; Somerville, one of Alabama's oldest and most prestigious law firms that merged with Adams and Reese in January 2003. In addition to becoming Lange Simpson's first female chair, Huckstep was also the first female to chair a top ten law firm in the entire state of Alabama. It was under her leadership that the Lange Simpson merger with Adams and Reese took flight, forming the largest law firm in the four state region at that time.

Huckstep is one of the top heath care attorneys in the Southeast region, and has been recognized by Best Lawyers of America for Health Care Law for many consecutive years. She represents a number of health care providers, including hospitals, medical service companies and physicians. She serves as an advisor on a broad range of matters, including compliance, accreditation, business transactions and corporate matters. She is also well-known for her extensive experience with Certificate of Need Law. In addition to health care law, Huckstep also practices in the areas of employee benefits and ERISA, mergers and acquisitions and general corporate law.

Despite devoting countless hours to her clients and her thriving legal practice, Huckstep is active in several civic and community groups, and has held numerous leadership roles among them. It is not surprising that she has also made many other &quot;first female&quot; milestones within those organizations. In 1987, she became the first female to chair the Board of Trustees for Christ United Methodist in Birmingham. In 1992, she was the first female to serve on the Board of Directors of the Birmingham Rotary Club. One year later, in 1993, Huckstep served as Chairman of the Board of Management of the Downtown Birmingham YMCA, and was again, the first woman to take on such an esteemed position. Huckstep presently serves as a Vice Chairman of the Birmingham Regional Chamber, as a member of its Executive Committee, as well as its legal counsel. She is on the Board of Directors of the United Way of Central Alabama, and on the Board of the Birmingham Rotary Club where she is also Sergeant at Arms. She is also a current Board Member of the Birmingham YMCA.</News:newsheading>

			<description>Address :  420 20th Street, NorthSuite 1600,  Phone : 205-328-0480,  City : Birmingham</description>
			<News:newsheading>Technology industry veteran and Nashville native Steve Wood Jr., has joined Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell &amp; Berkowitz, PC as Of Counsel, bringing the number of Nashville attorneys in the technology group to 11.

&quot;We pursued Steve because of his unique background in the business of technology,&quot; said Bruce Doeg, managing shareholder of Baker Donelson's Nashville office and co-founder of the firm's Business Technology Group. &quot;As a former tech company CEO, he understands the practical technology and business challenges that business owners face and is able to help them better balance the legal issues.&quot;

Mr. Wood brings to his law practice an unusual background that includes business experience in both commercial real estate finance and the vertical market software industry. He began his career as a commercial construction lender with a major bank in Charlotte, North Carolina, for three years before returning to Nashville as a commercial mortgage banker for two more years. Mr. Wood then attended law school at Vanderbilt, where he began work on a software application for automating the administration of commercial mortgage investment portfolios.

While practicing law in Nashville in the 1990s, he co-founded a business with his father to bring the technology to market, and he eventually left law practice to devote full attention to running the growing software business. The company achieved a 35% market share and was acquired by a NYSE-listed firm, and Mr. Wood stayed for two more years as division executive with the acquiring company.

Mr. Wood then spent five years as a full-time faculty member of Vanderbilt Law School, concentrating on practical business transactional law, and as an adjunct professor of entrepreneurship at Vanderbilt's Owen Graduate School of Management. During that time he also worked as a business consultant and advisor to technology-oriented businesses.

The Business Technology group at Baker Donelson helps clients navigate the complex and wide-ranging issues of eBusiness and technology. The group's attorneys have a broad range of experience working with traditional companies incorporating technology, as well as business-to-business and business-to-consumer companies, eHealth concerns, financial service companies, eSolutions providers, capital sources and infrastructure companies.</News:newsheading>

			<News:newsheading>A judge said yesterday that the Storm Water Management Authority (SWMA) violated a statutory requirement when it attempted to impose a 140 percent increase in fees in 2005.

Circuit Court Judge Tom King Jr. ruled that SWMA did not hold required public hearings prior to adopting its fee-increase proposal, therefore impacting &quot;the Plaintiffs' and the general public's right and ability to participate in the decision-making process.&quot;

Among those that filed the lawsuit against SWMA last year included the Business Alliance for Responsible Development, the Greater Birmingham Association of Home Builders, Sen. E.B. McClain and Bessemer Mayor Ed May.

A news release issued by the Business Alliance for Responsible Development (BARD) said that the 140 percent fee increase would mean area residents would pay an additional $2.9 million a year, or roughly $30 million over 10 years.

&quot;Judge King's ruling today recognized that the Storm Water Management Authority failed to give the general public a meaningful opportunity to be heard prior to passing a fee increase of nearly $30 million over the next ten years,&quot; said Rob Fowler of Balch &amp; Bingham LLP and attorney for the plaintiffs.

&quot;We are pleased with this victory today, but we will continue to work to ensure that SWMA abides by the law and stays within the role carved out for it by the Alabama Legislature,&quot; he said.

Zhaleh McCullers, director of SWMA, said she was not able to comment on the ruling.</News:newsheading>

			<News:newsheading>&quot;In Fulton County Superior Court, Southern Lenders Mortgage Company voluntarily dropped its suit against Tidwell DeWitt without prejudice in a filing August 3.

Southern Lenders had alleged that Tidwell DeWitt and two of its auditors, Chuck Johnson and Renee Day, should have discovered an approximately $4 million bank fraud committed by Southern Lenders over a 5-year time period. Both Southern Lenders and its former vice president Joe White have pleaded guilty to federal bank fraud charges.

White acknowledged in an affidavit that Southern Lenders management intentionally misled Tidwell DeWitt and state auditors. White also acknowledged that, "In my opinion, there is no way the state auditors or our auditors could have uncovered our misappropriation of the warehouse line funds.&quot;&quot;

"We are very pleased that this matter has wilted in the light of day," said Mitch Poole, chief operating officer and Atlanta managing member of Tidwell DeWitt. "Our representation at Balch &amp; Bingham truly guided us through this time. We knew this case was without merit and this action clearly vindicates the firm and its people." &quot;</News:newsheading>
