The Pro Bono Committee at Lowenstein Sandler has announced that David G. Tomeo and Jennifer J. McGruther have been selected by Volunteer Lawyers for Justice as recipients of the 2007 Pro Bono Attorney of the Year award. Mr. Tomeo and Ms. McGruther will be honored by the Volunteer Lawyers for Justice on October 2, 2007 during the Legal Services Foundation of Essex County Gala at the Manor in West Orange, New Jersey.

Highlights of David Tomeo and Jennifer McGruther's recent pro bono work have included their representation of an Essex County special education student at a "due process hearing" before the Office of Administrative Law, as well as in a related federal court proceeding. In a separate case, the attorneys successfully convinced the Essex County Chancery Court to cease execution of proceedings that would have evicted an Essex County woman from her home.

Lowenstein Sandler is pleased to announce that Robert J. Paradiso has joined the firm as Member and leader of the Tech Group’s life sciences patent practice. Mr. Paradiso is an Intellectual Property attorney with an established practice assisting domestic and international corporations, as well as higher learning institutions, on virtually all aspects of IP. He comes to Lowenstein Sandler from the Intellectual Property boutique Davidson, Davidson & Kappel, LLC in New York City.

Mr. Paradiso serves a myriad of industries, building and obtaining patent portfolios across many disciplines, including pharmaceuticals, chemicals, medical treatments, biotechnology, and medical and mechanical devices. In addition to working with clients on drafting and prosecuting patents, Mr. Paradiso is heavily involved in counseling on matters related to non-infringement, patentability, litigation, due diligence, freedom to operate, licensing and technology transfer. He also provides expertise on the development of lifecycle management, marketing and business strategies.

“We are delighted to welcome Robert Paradiso to Lowenstein Sandler,” said Mark P. Kesslen, chair of the Tech Group’s Intellectual Property section. “His portfolio of IP experience is diverse, particularly in regards to pharmaceuticals and biotech. Robert’s niche in this area will bring breadth to the firm’s Intellectual Property and Patents platform, and strengthen our services in this area.”

Highlights of Mr. Paradiso’s IP career have included representation of innovator, generic and specialty pharmaceutical companies with respect to patent issues related to NDA, ANDA and §505(b)(2) filings with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration under the Hatch-Waxman Act. In this capacity, Mr. Paradiso has successfully obtained patents that have been listed in the FDA Orange Book for NDA approved drug products and has counseled clients with respect to Paragraph IV Certifications.

Mr. Paradiso received his J.D. in 1994 from St. John’s University School of Law, and a B.S. in Pharmacy in 1990 from Long Island University. He is admitted to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, and admitted to practice in New York and New Jersey. Additionally, Mr. Paradiso is a registered pharmacist in New York and New Jersey.
