Akerman Moves to Strengthen Los Angeles Office
Summary: Akerman made a valuable addition to its Los Angeles office by adding former CFPB Deputy Assistant Director for the Office of Regulations.
Akerman LLP, a top 100 U.S. law firm, announced the addition to its Los Angeles office today. Already one of the largest U.S. legal teams focused solely on the financial services sector, the Consumer Financial Services Practice Group added a valuable partner to its team. Kathleen “Kitty” Ryan will join the firm from Buckley Sandler. She is a previous Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) Deputy Assistant Director for the Office of Regulations and a former Senior Regulatory Counsel at JP Morgan Chase.
Chair William Heller of the Consumer Financial Services Practice Group said, “Kitty’s extensive experience as a regulator, combined with her work as in-house counsel, makes her an invaluable asset to our clients, particularly within the areas of CFPB rulemaking and compliance. Her impressive financial services background builds upon our team’s national strengths in the home loan space and adds a deep understanding of laws governing bank and non-bank consumer debt originators and servicers.”
Ryan will focus her work on fair lending and regulatory compliance matters, especially those related to the Fair Housing Act, Equal Opportunity Act, Community Reinvestment Act, Home Mortgage Disclosure Act, UDAAP, and Truth in Lending Act.
Ryan is the latest CFPB official to join Akerman. The Washington D.C. office recently welcomed Mary “Molly” Calkins and Thomas J. Kearney as partners. Kearney worked closely with Ryan within the CFPB’s Office of Regulations.
